Iona “Yvonne” Murphy, 92, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Ft. Madison Community Hospital.
She was born on November 11, 1917 to Hubert B. and Edna M. Shaw Richardson. On March 7, 1936 she married Floyd Morris Murphy; he preceded her in death on January 5, 1973. Iona was a Homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ft. Madison where she played the organ for many years. Her religious beliefs and faith in God sustained her throughout her life. Iona was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She appreciated the dinners from Meals on Wheels and the friendly, caring assistance she received from the home health aides. She enjoyed baking playing the piano and baking pies, cakes and cookies for her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Darla Worrell of Franklin, IA and Colleen (Eric) Barker of Montrose, IA; two sons, Morris (Lynne) Murphy of Des Moines, IA and Patrick (Karen) Murphy of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A private graveside service will be held in Oakland Cemetery with Pastor David Mason officiating. Per her wishes, her body has been cremated.
